ER

Episodes - Series 8

Benton and Corday hugging at Mark's funeral
Weaver's back in the ER after a self-imposed three-week sabbatical, as is Dr Susan Lewis when a lunch date with Mark Greene leads to a job offer back at County.

Speaking of Mark, he continues to keep schtum after letting a gunman die at the end of Series 7. That's the least of his problems though, when his out-of-control daughter Rachel comes to live with him and Corday, and when his health takes a turn for the worse and he's diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Benton learns that former girlfriend, Carla, has died in a car crash. Cue court case where he has to fight for access to Reese against Roger, Carla's husband.

Despite finding out that he's not Reese's real father, Benton is granted full custody but only on the condition he works fewer hours. He ends up transferring to another hospital, together with girlfriend Dr Cleo Finch who leaves for a quieter pace of life after cutting her hand whilst treating an HIV-positive patient.

Kovac finishes things with Abby and starts dating a beautiful French waitress instead. Abby has a hard time dealing with it all (especially when said beautiful French waitress gets a job in the ER) and ends up slipping into old habits and hitting the bottle. Luckily for her, Carter's on hand to help.

Newly promoted to Chief Resident, Chen panics and misdiagnoses a patient. Weaver strips her of the position so she quits. However, she gets her revenge at a later date and is re-hired as an Attending.

Super-confident Gregory Pratt arrives on the scene as a first-year intern, as does Michael Gallant who helps Weaver rescue a pregnant woman trapped in a wrecked ambulance. Weaver's impressed but even more so by firefighter Sandy Lopez. One person who's definitely not in Weaver’s good books though is Dave Malucci who she fires when she catches him having sex in an ambulance.

Realising the brain tumour is stopping him from doing his job properly, Mark Greene decides to indulge in life's simple pleasures instead. He lives out his final days in Hawaii and eventually succeeds in reuniting his broken family.

After a tearful funeral back in Chicago, it's all hands on deck as an epidemic threatens to break out and the ER is locked-down.
