Cast - Previous - Susan Lewis
Eager and enthusiastic, but lacking in assertiveness at first, Susan Lewis is no push over when she eventually stands her ground.
She comes into conflict with Dr Jack Kayson in Series 1 after he discharges one of her patients, who then dies as a result. When Kayson tries putting the blame on Susan, Dr Mark Greene has to monitor her every move. Fortunately, Kayson is reprimanded in the end, and Susan is left with her head held high.
With a sister like Chloe, Susan's life is never quiet for long. Chloe's inability to look after her child - which is mainly down to her finding alcohol and drugs more appealing - means that Susan is literally left holding the baby when Chloe does a runner.
Overstressed and unable to cope, Susan's in for even more of a rough ride when Dr Kerry Weaver gives her a hard time. Mark again has to intervene which leads to them both developing feelings for each other. Despite Mark running to the train station to tell her he loves her, Susan still ends up leaving to be with her sister and niece at the end of Series 3.
Returning to County in Series 8 as an attending physician, she has a relationship with John Carter, which doesn't last, and helps Mark out in his hour of need when he admits to her that his brain tumour has returned.
After Mark's death, her relationship with the female staff at County, Abby Lockhart, Elizabeth Corday and Kerry Weaver in particular, improves.
She then meets Chuck Martin on a flight to Vegas where they get married in a drunken stupor. The marriage is annulled but they start dating, and even have a baby together.
Although she gets promoted to Chief of Emergency Medicine after Romano dies, she gets pipped to the tenure post by Carter so leaves County for a similar position at a hospital in Iowa in Series 12.
