At his hospital bedside, Earl's father, Carl notices his list and begins to recall the ruined vacation. With his parents house empty, Earl, Joy and Randy head to the store to buy some alcohol. While there, a duffel bag of marijuana is left in the back of their truck, which they discover also has an angry owner in pursuit…
Meanwhile, Earl's parents return home due to a delayed flight and destroy the drugs, leading the dealer to take Joy hostage along with Earl's mother, while the guys go to buy some replacements. After refusing a chance to 'try before they buy', the dealers become suspicious and pull a gun on the trio but uncharacteristically, Carl diffuses the situation.
Despite the fact that his vacation had been ruined, Earl's father's act of bravery makes him desire a more exciting life. Earl had no idea that he later helped the police bust the drug dealers, and unwittingly, it's revealed that Earl has given Carl much more than a vacation could offer. As his father expresses his gratitude; Earl, rests peacefully in his coma.
