Whilst sinking a few brewskis at The Crab Shack, Earl overhears Joy and Darnell bickering about her pregnancy, which takes him back to when he was married to Joy, and reminds him of finishing something he started.
Fact is after the initial shock of discovering his new wife is heavily pregnant, Earl didn't mind being the daddy to somebody else's child, but the pressures of squalling baby soon drove Earl to drink and Joy into Darnell's arms, whereupon Earl discovers he's going to have a son of his own.
The impending birth brings Earl and his parents closer together, giving him a new purpose in life providing for his new son, until Earl Jnr comes out darker than usual. With the evidence of Joy's philandering staring him in the face Earl runs home, which is when Carl finally snaps and takes a stand.
He's always allowed Earl to give up on things but with two babies to feed walking out is not an option. With the help of some gerbils and an unfinished lamp from the eighth grade, he helps Earl do the one good thing in his life before the list existed, being a father to his kids.
Karmic Words of Wisdom
"I don't like having sex in a walk-in-freezer. It's cold in there but we still get sweaty; last time my balls froze to a keg of beer." Darnell
"I don't care if he's got flippers and a beak, just push a little harder and tell me what colour he is." Joy
"Joy had her baby and it came out black. For a second there we were all going get to dress up as clowns, but that didn't work out the way I hoped." Randy
