When Simon Elder flattens Darling Plaza, Tripp decides to call a truce meeting at his country manor. It’s a chance for him to make it up with Patrick too, if his wife lets him live that long. Patrick’s wife, Ellen, decides she can share him with Carmelita and the two women meet to discuss what days they can have him. In fact, the bargaining goes so well they don’t even need Patrick there. Arrangements made, the married couple play happy families at the country house until Patrick makes an unscheduled visit to his mistress, upsetting Ellen so much she shoots him in the leg. As you do.

The gunfire at least breaks the tension created by Tripp confronting Simon Elder and by Letitia scheming against Lisa. Tripp is convinced that the Darlings having had Simon Elder’s parents deported in the 1950s is the reason for his rival’s vendetta, and he may well be right. But it was Dutch who actually pushed the deportation through so did Elder get his revenge by tampering with his plane? Simon Elder suggests that Nick looking into the assassination of Kenneth Darling might yield a different answer. Is Nick even safe in the middle of this bitter feud?
Nick certainly isn’t safe from Karen’s attentions and Letitia is determined to help her daughter win him over. She tells Lisa about the former lovebirds' kiss and winds her up about Nick’s lies – it’s too much and Lisa needs time alone to think about her marriage. At least Jeremy is luckier in love and finally gets to go on a date with the gorgeous Sofia. He still refuses to tell her he is a Darling, even if it is useful to get a table in restaurants, and learns from Carl what 'poor people' do on dates. The chauffeur’s advice proves successful, although he does end up having to pretend to be Jeremy’s dad, Mr Babeson.
Finally there's the ongoing custody battle for Brian over Brian Jr. As a vicar Brian should turn to God to solve his problems, but as a Darling he'd rather let money do the talking...
