The Special Section
There’s a death in Larry’s family while he’s shooting a Scorsese film in New York, and he doesn’t find out about it until two days after the funeral. After the initial shock, he uses his loss to evade a number of undesirable social events. Richard Lewis accuses Larry of East-Indian giving his meditation mantra, and Larry is incensed to hear that the cemetery has a “special section”.
Larry arrives home after acting in a Martin Scorsese movie in New York. After much coaxing, Larry’s dad Nat tells Larry that his mother is dead and he’s missed the funeral. What Larry doesn’t miss is the opportunity to use his mother’s death to get out of all sorts of forthcoming diary dates.
Meanwhile, Richard Lewis, ever the spiritualist, takes up meditation after Larry splits his mantra with him. Richard’s not best pleased when he discovers that the mantra Larry gives him means “fuck me”.
After learning his mother was buried in the “special section”, Larry pays a grave digger to move his mother’s body. Unfortunately for Larry, this is an action that really does have grave consequences.
