Larry and Cheryl plan a dinner party with the chef from his restaurant. Due to poor reception on Larry’s new cell phone, a simple misunderstanding has disastrous consequences for Richard’s girlfriend…
Larry shows off his new cell phone by ringing Cheryl and arranging a dinner to accompany a viewing of Richard Lewis’ new HBO special. Larry specifically tells Cheryl about Richard Lewis’ girlfriend Deborah’s allergy to peanuts, but it’s of little use because, unbeknownst to Larry, his phone signal drops out. Predictably, things at the dinner don’t go too well. The TV’s on the blink, which Larry blames firmly on Mike the TV guy, and Deborah falls ill after having an allergic reaction to the food.
After a run in with the TV guy, Larry fires Mike and is then accused by Wanda of being a “tip profiler”. In a bid to help Deborah’s allergic reaction alleviate, Larry spikes a batch of brownies with Benadryl, but it’s no use because she doesn’t want to eat them.
Richard Lewis then attends the Emmys with Deborah. On the red carpet, Joan Rivers attempts to interview Richard Lewis, but once Joan sees Deborah’s face she isn’t quite so keen to speak to him anymore.
