Carol Vorderman to Leave Countdown

Des and Carol

Carol Vorderman has confirmed that she is to leave daytime quiz show Countdown at the end of this year.

Carol has been Countdown's resident statistician for over 25 years, since the programme launched the Channel on 2nd November 1982. Carol was the first woman to appear on Channel 4. She has clocked up over 4,500 appearances on the popular words and numbers quiz, which she has co-presented alongside the show’s original host, the late Richard Whiteley, as well with presenter Des Lynam and current anchor Des O’Connor.

Kevin Lygo, Channel 4's Director of Television and Content said: "We are extremely sorry to see Carol leave. She was the first woman on Channel 4 and has made an enormous contribution to the success of Countdown over the last twenty five years. We hope to work with her again on other projects."

Replacements for both Carol Vorderman and Des O'Connor will be announced in due course.
