Interviews - Eleanor Tiernan
Eleanor Tiernan is a stand-up comedian from Athlone, Co. Roscommon, Ireland. This confuses most people because they think Athlone is in Westmeath. Eleanor wants to clear up the confusion... and be funny.
Since starting comedy she has performed at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, the Galway Comedy Festival, in Best of Irish at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and at the BudLight Comedy Revue.
Within just a year of starting stand-up, Eleanor was asked to perform in Dublin's Vicar St for the RTE production "The Liffey Laughs", and the BBC's "One Night Stand".
Eleanor studied acting in Dublin and you may recognise her from playing the part of ditzy waitress Emer on RTE's The Cafe.
Most recently though, she starred in the play Help! which she wrote with her two cousins and performed with great success at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival.
Eleanor is currently on tour as the support act for Tommy Tiernan's Bovinity.
The Irish Times say: "She is one of the brightest and most promising new Irish comic talents."
And The Scotsman said: "Jokes - she's good at it."
In Headwreckers it is my job to reduce the carbon footprint of our sketches.
Syphoning petrol out of cars.
Did you always want to be a comedian? No
Did the writers' room style of Headwreckers provide more freedom when you were coming up with ideas for sketches? No
I change my mind all the time. My favourite sketch at the moment is the bizarre medical conditions one.
How did you feel when you were told Headwreckers would become a Comedy Lab?I was in shock, but then I had just reversed my car into a wall.
Mike Tyson, and it would have to be about sheepdogs.
If you weren't a comedian what would you be?I would be an assistant to a comedian. I could anticipate their every need.
