Heroes - Mitchell and Webb
David Mitchell and Robert Webb first met at Cambridge University in a Footlights production of Cinderella (we think it's safe to assume they were playing ugly sisters).
After forming a strong comedic bond they took their two-man show to Edinburgh and from there wrote material for Armstrong and Miller and the second series of Big Train.
Eventually the pair made their television debut in 2000 on a short-lived BBC sketch show entitled Bruiser. But 2001 was set to be Mitchell and Webb's year as they got a sketch show all of their own - The Mitchell and Webb Situation – and a Comedy Lab – Daydream Believers.
Daydream Believers was a sci-fi comedy that mixed an unhealthy dose of satire together with gross-out humour.
Ray (David Mitchell) was the creative one making all the money, while Colin (Robert Webb), the hapless one, fought capitalist power in Ray's borrowed BMW.
David and Rob continued their work on Channel 4 with the massively successful Peep Show.
The situations that Peep Show writers Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain threw Mitchell and Webb's characters into perfectly suited their juxtaposing straight man, funny man personas and so the accolades soon followed.
Peep Show can boast a BAFTA nomination for Best Situation Comedy, a Golden Rose and winner of the Best TV Comedy at the South Bank Awards in 2004. In 2006 Peep Show won the Best TV Comedy at the British Comedy Awards.
Mitchell and Webb are currently working on a sixth series of Peep Show, while it's also been rumoured that the two are hoping to revive Daydream Believers into a radio series.
