David Baddiel

First of a new wave of post-alternative comedians who brought a laid back intellectual approach to stand-up. Was also the first comedian (alongside Rob Newman) to sell out the 12,000 seat capacity Wembley Arena.
David Chappelle

Controversially walked away from his popular Comedy Central TV programme last April and has yet to return. Race features heavily in his routines, as do his portrayals of famous black people which he delivers with deadpan humour
Demetri Martin

Martin's fascination with, and scrutiny of, words features heavily in his routines. He analyses them until the brain is completely overloaded and you just can't help but laugh at the results. His trademark nerdy compulsions are often accompanied by 'material enhancers' such as a guitar, glockenspiel or doodles on a flip-chart
Denis Leary

Known for his dirty and often angst-filled humour, Leary combines rapid-fire delivery with political satire. He made his mark on the comedy scene with angry but hilarious rants against no-smoking laws and infringements on personal freedoms, and has since moved on to star in over 35 movies.
Donna McPhail

Well-established and respected 'ladette' stand-up. Nominated for the 1993 Perrier Award for her "acute, inventive, fresh and consistently funny" one woman show, A Personality Disorder On The Rampage. Also known for presenting The Sunday Show for BBC2.
Dylan Moran

Bohemian-like in his appearance, Moran is the Irish stand-up whose on-stage persona comes across as frustrated and sometimes perplexed. He has the ability to merge various strands that seem totally unrelated, combining them with fantastical and colourful language.
