Secret Policeman’s Ball, the world’s best comedy gig returns to London’s Royal Albert Hall on Saturday 4 October. This year’s Secret Policeman’s Ball will also mark the start of Amnesty International’s celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in December. Rather than dwell in the doom and gloom of human rights, Amnesty are set to raise awareness through the worldwide language of laughter. There’s a stellar line-up in store, including the comedians below. For more info on them there funny folk, read on…
Alan Carr
Northampton’s finest makes his Secret Policeman’s Ball bow this weekend. Recently we’ve had Alan and his Sunday/Friday Night Partner partner in crime, Justin Lee Collins, act out a sketch written by a 4Laughs user. It’s bloody funny – it’s got Alan dressed as Cherie Blair! – so you should watch that too! Alan and Justin have also chatted to us about their favourite celebrities, while Alan had a word in our ear about his quiz show Celebrity Ding Dong.
Jason Manford
The 8 Out of 10 Cats team captain will be performing live-stand up at the ‘Ball. If you Jason or you’d like to find out more about him, then read our interview with him. He talks about Dave Spikey’s shoes and David Walliams sleeping with all and sundry.
Tim Minchin
Us folk at Channel 4 Comedy are big fans of the Minch-meister and following the amount of awards he’s won over the last few years it seems like we’re not the only ones. Find out what’s so darn great about him in our musical comedy feature that’s titled with the following delightful pun, ‘On Song Comedians’.
Sarah Millican
Friend of Channel 4 Comedy Sarah Millican did us proud this year when she picked up the Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe, so being the bandwagon jumpers that we are, we quickly spoke to her before her ego exploded after a plethora of accolades went her way. We liked her a lot. She talked about sausages. What’s not to like about sausages?
Kayvan Novak
“Kayvan Novak? Who he?” Well, he’s the voice of many – he’s the voice of Fonejacker. We found out a little more about the man behind the balaclava when we spoke to him t’other week. Read all about it.
Russell Peters
The Canadian comic will be making an appearance at the SPB, but we understand you might not necessarily know who he is, but that’s ok, we’re not going to laugh in your face (we’ll probably just do it behind your back), moreover we’ll simply direct you to his profile on 4Laughs. He gives out tips to budding comedians and everything.
Mitchell & Webb
You didn’t really think the most omnipresent comedians in the world would fail to be at the Secret Policeman’s Ball did you? Of course you didn’t! The two will be there performing a sketch about those nasty Nazis, but if that political content is a bit too heavy for you why not read our many features about Messrs. Mitchell and Webb. Why, we’ve got an article about the many, many conquests the pair have bedded as Mark and Jeremy in Peep Show, then they get a mention in ‘Comedians and Commercials’, a big up in our fervent Footlights featurette, and a holler in ‘Two’s Company’, a look into the best comedy double acts.
Matt Berry
Yet again, Matt Berry may not be a name you’re aware of, but by gosh, you’ll know the comedy programmes he’s been in – The Mighty Boosh and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, anyone? While playing Dixon Bainbridge in The Mighty Boosh, Matt came across the exceptional talents of Rich Fulcher who played the equally exceptional Bob Fossil. The pair have since made the cult hit Snuffbox. Anyhoos, we’ve talked to them and published the very words they spoke to us right here on the internet.
For more quite awesome comedy chingwags, check out these interviews.
And for a unique look at the latest goings-on in laughter land, take a gander in awe at these fruity features!
