With work on Danny's bar finally complete, everything is set for the opening party. But Danny has another plan in mind for the night: escape from Meadowlands. Samantha, suspecting something unusual behind Danny's cheery demeanour, instructs Wintersgill to keep an eye on him.

Brenda is shocked by Tom's decision to escort Zoe to the party instead of her, and demands to know why Jezebel has stood by and let her mother make a fool of herself. Jezebel reminds Brenda how it was they ended up in Meadowlands to begin with.

Calm seems to have returned to David and Abigail's fraught marriage, until she springs a surprise on him at the surgery. Brenda gets an altogether different surprise when she discovers Mark and Jezebel together. She reveals the truth about her past to Mark, only for Jezebel to wander in and find them together, when she learns the real secret behind Mark's evasiveness. Meanwhile, Evelyn is struggling to persuade the twins to leave Meadowlands, but they're determined to stay. To Danny's consternation, Evelyn's parental instinct wins out and she tells Danny she's changed her mind and wants to stay. Danny decides that it's time to come clean about the true motivation behind his desire to escape, and he's determined that nothing will derail his plans.

Jezebel talks Mark into asking Brenda if he can take her to the party, even though he doesn't want to. Jezebel tells him not to worry about lying: "Meadowlands is one big lie." The habit of revealing secrets must be catching, as Mark shocks Zoe with the revelation about his love triangle with Jezebel and her mother. A surprise visit from Wintersgill finds him preying on the twins' fears about the world that awaits them outside of Meadowlands.

Come the night of the party, and Danny is playing the part of the genial host, but Zoe and Mark are now convinced that Meadowlands is more of a danger than a haven and tell Evelyn that they've decided to leave. However, she's worried that David - drunk, aggressive and angry over a fresh revelation from Abigail - will tell the assembled company about her secret. When he tries to grab the microphone after Danny's speech, she realises the time has come to tell Danny everything, setting in motion a chain of events which leads to him discovering the unexpected truth about Meadowlands.
