The rise of the Mary Rose

On October 11 Henry VIII flagship The Mary Rose, last seen above water in 1545, was successfully raised from its watery grave near Portsmouth.

The story of the Mary Rose
On 20 July 1545, the ship had been sunk during a raid by French ships on Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. Five hundred men were lost. The attack convinced Henry to make peace with Francis I of France, and he returned Boulogne to French possession.
