Stereo
pounding, lights blinding, handbrake screaming, the Westwood
Mobile(tm) screeched to a halt outside the Sloppy house. Our swanned
Lord Of Hip Hop, Tim Westwood, flanked by his crew and leaving behind
in the van a coterie of 'bitches' - apparently (although we have photo-evidence
to
the contrary)

We hung with Westwood and chewed the phat:
What are your tips for 2003? The cat to look out
for is an artist called ’50 Cents’. He’s now signed
to Slim Shady records, Eminem’s label, going out through Interscope.
I’ve never seen so much heat on an artist. It reminds me of
when Biggie Smalls first came out, the Notorious B.I.G. That’s
how I’m feeling it. What tracks should we be looking
out for? ‘Wankster’ his lead single. He’s
got a joint out produced by Dr Dre ‘In the Club’. Crazy.
Destroyed every single party over Christmas with those. Any
one else? R.Kelly. He’s dropped a couple of singles
and the remixes of them are incredible. There’s one called ‘Ignition’
– the remix is incredible. And another ‘Step Into Love’.
The remix, again, is incredible. That’s what I’m really
feeling. I really am supporting R Kelly. I know there’s a little
controversy around him but I’m judging the man on music. You
know he hasn’t gone to trial yet – I’m not into
any of that nonsense. He’s always been one of my favourite artists.
What was the first record you ever bought? I really
can’t remember. The first hiphop record I bought was ‘The
Message’ in 79. Turning point for hip hop.
What do you put on to chill out? To be honest, I
just love hiphop. I listen to hiphop all day and all night Can
you tell us one amazing fact? Hiphop is the biggest form
of music in the world, the music of today’s generation, it’s
where it’s at so just wise up and be part of it.
