Impossibly
young, and jaw-grindingly talented, brothers Tom (17) and Alex (19)
are ESP, Brighton-based rock act. Their home-recorded album 'Silent
To The Dark' got them a Q Best Newcomer gong, and a Mercurey Prize
nomination. Good tunes, unexpected twists and turns, damn fine LP.

silent
to the dark video

We manhandled Alex into a stairwell and recorded this:
What you been listening to this week? I'm a big
Jayz fan. I've been listening to his album. The Edan record, Canadian
underground. A kind of American streets. Very primitive, funny. What
was the first record you ever bought? I don't remember. I
only got a CD player when I was fourteen - not because I was poor,
I just didn't want one - and I bought a Elvis Presley CD. I bought
Aloha From Hawaii, the first live television satellite thing from
1970 something. I've still got it. Do you still listen to
it? Yeah! Although I prefer the time when he had finished
doing the movies and before he got fat. Been to any gigs recently?
Yeah a friend of mine's band 'Driven To Collison'. Sonic Youth, early
Nirvana kind of thing. What do you put on to chill out?
'Beaucoup Fish' Underworld. I like banging techno music. I can fall
asleep quite happily to that. Jayz chills me out too. Have
you ever been arrested? No. I've never been caught.
Where's a good place to go in Brighton? Um....the Great Eastern
pub. Kemptown - plenty of pubs and madness down there. I don't really
go out that much.
