Oh
what a high quality funny man Ed Byrne is. The Times dubbed him "the
master of observational comedy". "Facking blinding"
said The Daily Telegraph on their front page. Maybe. He's
appeared on Father Ted and 'I Love Muppets'. And now Born Sloppy. |

We stumbled across Ed backstage, plied him with coke (-a
cola) and chatted him up:
Tell us an amazing fact Cats have two sets of vocal
chords. One set for miaowing. One set for purring. What’s
your tipple? Jack and coke What have you been listening
to this week? Pro Jam, Audioslave and I’m still listening
to Tenacious D What was the first record you bought?
“Let’s Go All The Way” by Sly Fox Can you
moonwalk? Half-assed. Yeah. [he gets up and moonwalks
admirably] We give you six out of ten. Can you human
beatbox? No. But I can fart on demand. What’s
your favourite sandwich?
Cheese and ham toastie. Sometimes with tobasco. Sometimes without.
What’s the longest you’ve been without sleep?
About 50 hours. Have you ever been arrested? No.
Never. What did you dream of doing as a kid? I wanted
to be an actor. In a Star Wars film. We’ve got Holly
Valance on today. Did you ever see the episode of Neighbours with
Bouncer’s dream? No. I didn’t get to see it but
I heard a lot about it. Do you have a memorable Neighbours
scene? Yeah. When Daphne died. And her husband was by her
bedside, and he said “I love you” and she was in a coma
and she said “I love you too” and he was like yeaaaahh
and he went dancing round and she was dead. The guy who killed Daphne
is a friend of mine. An Australian called Greg Fleet. What’s
the most ridiculous piece of gossip you’ve heard about yourself?
That I went out with Heather Graham. It was in fact the American actor
Ed Burns but an Irish newspaper saw fit to repeat that. Doh
Ed Byrne's in residence at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London from 16th
to 21st December. Check him. He funny.
