Jade’s biggest fan names a star after her 03-Mar-2003
Jade’s biggest fan, Peter Williams presented her with a framed certificate declaring there is now officially a star called Jade Goody!
When postman Peter gave Jade her gift, the thought of having her name actually in lights was enough to render her uncharacteristically speechless and for a few minutes all she could say was “oh my god! Oh my god!”. (before eventually asking, “What? Like in the Sky?” )
Peter told gobsmacked Jade, “It’s been registered with the International Star Registry in London, and every five years your name will be in a big book in Chicago!”
When the BB website spoke to Peter he said, “ Jade was so down to earth, she hasn’t ler fame go to her head at all. And she told me she’s going to put it on her wall at home”.
The official Jade Goody star can be found in the Andromeda constellation (Andromeda being Latin for “princess” just like our Miss Goody) – which for those night sky novices is best viewed in the Autumn months.
And if, like Jade you think “oh my god that is just the nicest fing ever!” and want to see the real thing for yourself – this is what you’ll need to do:
· Point your telescope towards Cassiopeia (the shape of a ‘W’ close to the North Star)
· Move the telescope below the ‘W’ and you should see a shape that looks like a slightly bent ‘A’ which points in the north-easterly direction
· Jade Goody is within this shape and is between 72 and 390 light years away from the earth
Still, somehow we can’t quite imagine Patrick Moore discussing the cosmic qualities of Jade Goody in The Sky At Night.
