CHARITIES

Crisis

Crisis

Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people. It provides services to and campaigns on behalf of the 400,000 homeless people in Britain, many of whom live out of sight in hostels, temporary bed and breakfast accommodation, squats or sleep on the floor of family and friends.

The charity's work ranges from helping homeless people to secure private rented accommodation to supporting them to achieve their vocational goals.

Crisis see how homelessness deskills and isolates people, eroding the kind of practical and social skills that most of us take for granted. Consequently, rebuilding skills through learning and training sits at the heart of the organisation.

Help the Hospices

Help The Hospices

Every year hospices help over 250,000 terminally ill patients and their families – adding life to days even when days cannot be added to life.

The UK's hospices care for children and adults with cancer and other terminal illnesses. This care is given completely free of charge, in the patient’s home, through day care, or in the hospice itself.

Help the Hospices is the national charity supporting over 240 children's and adult hospices across the UK. This support is provided though a wide range of services, all aimed at helping hospices provide the very best care for patients and their families.

Samaritans

Samaritans

Samaritans is a registered charity, founded in 1953, which offers 24-hour confidential emotional support to anyone in emotional distress. The service is offered by 17,000 trained volunteers and is entirely dependent on voluntary support.

It is the aim of Samaritans to make emotional health a mainstream issue. Samaritans' vision is for a society where fewer people die by suicide because people are able to share feelings of emotional distress openly without fear of being judged.

Samaritans believes that offering people the opportunity to be listened to in confidence, and accepted without prejudice, can alleviate despair and suicidal feelings.
