Employee of the Week: Marcus Bentley
Tuesday 15 August
Day 90, 15:23
We chat to Employee of the Week and voice of Big Brother Marcus Bentley about life as BB, and which housemate he likes best...
How do you feel being employee of the week?
Justifiably proud. I think I've put a load of effort in this year, thirteen weeks without a day off, and I think I'm doing really well so really I think I should be the employee of the whole series, but that's just my big head speaking.
Your colleagues must be jealous?
Well I've had a lot of funny looks as I go around, and there is a lot of back stabbing, I can see the jealousy in their eyes.
You were on BBLB as the voice of God...
That was great, that was a real buzz. I refused to go on and show my face, even though I've been on it before, we were just having a bit of a laugh. I was sort of the Big Brother voice incognito.
Why do you not like showing your face?
Cos I'm so ugly, nah (laughs) I don't know, I just sort of like to sort of do what I do, you know, I'm not a presenter, I'm the voice of Big Brother, and I just like to keep it that way.
What does your job involve?
You know what, the whole run starts off and I'm so excited and I love every single day. It gets to about the middle of the show and I think 'oh my goodness' and I'm really knackered, because it's every single day, and I don't get a day off. Now it's got to the stage when I can see the end in sight and I'm already missing it and thinking 'oh I'm going to feel really bereaved. I already can't wait for next year's big Brother.
So what happens if you are ill one day, has anyone ever covered for you?
No and I wouldn't let them! They would have to drag me in here with no legs you know. During the last celebrity Big Brother I had this food poisoning bug or whatever it was, it knocked me sideways for about three days and I used get a car here and fall out the car, I was shivering and shaking. I'd go to my voice over booth and lay on the floor by the radiator until my senior producer would pick me up and point me in the direction of the microphone.
Do you have a favourite housemate?
This year I think I've had my favourite group of people. We've had the hilarious and absolutely unique Nikki, same with Pete. I've never met anybody like that, he seems a lovely bloke. Glyn has gone on an amazing journey from a young lad to this great funny man. Imogen is probably the most beautiful housemate of all time. Aisleyne is just like unique, and such a funny girl, an important housemate.
Shahbaz was wacky and wonderful. Richard is a funny man and great to have in there, he does exactly what it says on the tin. I really admire Jennie, she's been such a stalwart of the show, it's so difficult coming in midway, or even three quarters of the way through, cos as she was saying the other night, she doesn't know people and felt left out.
Do you think the romance between Pete and Nikki will last?
I hope so. We've had a few Big Brother romances down the years and I don't see why not because they are weird and wonderful together.
Are you looking forward to the final week?
With the ex housemates coming in last week it almost felt like a finale, with them all back, it was really buzzing. I think we're just going to get a massive buzz this week and it's going to get exciting. Glyn was in the Diary Room yesterday crying his eyes out because he was nervous, and do you know what, I don't blame him, if I was eighteen years old...
