MATT WHYMAN: Beat my Big Bro' blues
Day 67, 15:45

I've just returned to the USA from a visit to the UK, where I found myself obsessed by your Big Brother! Since I got back I've been keeping up with events via the internet. I've even told my husband I'm still on vacation so I can spend more time watching the housemates, but how will I cope now the series is over?

Anon, California

You may be sad to see the lights go out now the last housemate has left, but it does free you up to focus on your own domestic events. Ignore your old man for much longer and you risk a neighbour-come-journalist yelling: 'you've been dumped!' over the fence.

Of course, you won't be alone in pining for more reward room riots and spectacular task failures. Over the last few weeks, we've come to know Cam & co as if they were good friends (or yapping lapdogs depending on your opinion). Either way, they've been around so intensely that it's natural to miss their company.

The way forward is to recognise what an impact the show has had on you, and identify positive things you can learn from it. I imagine we can all now conjure up wonderful meals using little more than lentils, and won't be afraid to discuss the space-time continuum in public thanks to Jon's sixty-four day science crammer course. In some ways we're drawn to watch Big Brother because it reflects our own existence, so if you can aim to walk away with a clearer insight into your own life, it will only benefit your relationship.

Right now you need to spend some quality time with hubby: cuddled up together, enjoying a shared experience. As Big Brother USA will be dominating your screens and ours for the rest of the summer, I suggest you make some space for him on the sofa - sharpish!
