A Halloween Feast for October

As dark nights descend on us, so do autumn festivities, kicking off with one of our favourites, Halloween! We at Schwartz love a challenge and making spooky eats for this great day is no exception. Whether you're catering for an army of little ones at a fancy dress party or cooking up a death defying romantic meal for two – we've got it covered!

If you're scratching your head as to where to start, let the Schwartz cauldron come to the rescue. Blood red mulled wine, baked apples, spooky sausages, cheesy fingers and a cauldron of pumpkin soup make great party eats! We can't resist the Devil's Food Cake either!

Halloween is a chance to have good lighted fun with good hearty food too! Go for chilli jacket potatoes, a blood orange and beetroot salad finished with a mixed spice crumble topping on your favourite fruits. We all know how you witches get carried away so after a night of partying too hard why not indulge in a nachos midnight feast, easy, delicious and very naughty!

After Halloween, we need to concentrate on making hearty foods for family and friends for the rest of the month. With some great harvested produce bring on the soups, great spicy desserts and meat dishes! With the need for warmer foods why not have a cook up and freeze home made dishes to bung in the oven for days when you just need to kick back? Create a cosy autumn feast of caramelised goats cheese and onion tarts or a tomato and basil tart? Deliciously decadent and oh so easy to do.

Harvest your apples and prepare sage and apple sausages – if autumn is about one thing, its comfort! Tuck in!

Next month we're looking at winter warmers and having fun in the kitchen, so many ideas, and so many ingredients... so many ways to make food fabulous!
