One Night Only
Starting out as a covers band in North Yorkshire (Blink 182 was their specialty, apparently). Indie rock anthemists One Night Only played their first gig back in 2003 and the name was only intended for that one occasion. However, no one came up with any other suggestions and several years of playing to one man and a dog (who wouldn't know a tune if he bit it) followed until starmaker Steve Lamacq began playing their demo on the actual proper radio.
An A and R bunfight ensued and One Night Only decided Vertigo Records were the right chaps to sign their life away to. The band then toured with The Enemy and began recording with legendary producer Steve Lillywhite (he did The Pogues and U2 and people like that).
First single 'You And Me' was followed by 'Just For Tonight', which rocketed into the UK Top Ten (and bizarrely became the closing music for Holland's Euro 2008 coverage). Their debut album 'Started A Fire' also made the Top Ten. Haven't they done well?
