The Hoosiers
Before exuding their joyous brand of pop, Irwin and Alfonso from The Hoosiers had jollied around America to 'broaden their horizons' on their teacher’s advice and subsequently won places at the Indiana University on a football scholarship.
FACT: Coincidentally, the university’s football team was the Indiana Hoosiers of which they took their name and for some time toyed with ‘The Hoosier Complex’.
Sensing that football wasn’t their true calling, the pair, who had been making music in their spare time, left America for the chilly shores of Blighty where they met Swedish ex-fireman and studio engineer Martin Skarendahl at a Brick Lane recording studio.
With a contract with RCA in hand the Hoosiers released their first single ‘Worried About Ray’ – for which they were nominated a Brit Award - in 2007 which went to number five. Their popularity didn’t end there, with follow up track ‘Goodbye Mr A’ nestling in at number four and debut album ‘The Trick To Life’ snapping up the top spot.
