Alphabeat
Originally known as Sodastar but needing to change their name because a fast-thinking German band had beaten them to it, Alphabeat formed in 2004. They gave their Danish homeland a taste of their sweet pop sound in 2007 with their debut single, 'Fascination' which became a Top Ten hit. 'Fascination' was followed up by the band's first Danish Number One single, '10,000 Nights Of Thunder'.
Boasting a royalties-diminishing six members, Alphabeat have three people who share the same first name: with Anders SG, Anders B and Anders Reinholt all coming running to the same call. Now signed in the UK after a small-scale bidding war, Alphabeat's first move was to spurn the advances of the Spice Girls, who were keen to have Alphabeat support them on their comeback tour. The band wisely claimed that they were aiming at a new generation of pop listeners instead of those living solely for nineties pop nostalgia.
The band moved to the UK in 2007 to focus on the British pop market, taking a five-bedroom house in East London. Sadly this meant that female lead singer Stine Bramsen would have to set up home in the lounge, but she would survive the experience to help establish the group as one of the most hotly tipped groups for 2008.
