Adele
Adele's first public singing performance was in a school presentation wherein she sang Rise by Gabrielle. To make her look like the singer, her mother made an eye patch with sequins, which she said was 'embarrassing.'
Despite the eye patch she went to The BRIT School in Croydon which produced such singing stars as Amy Winehouse and Leona Lewis. It was also during this time she became friends with Jack Penate who helped her define her style.
Adele's first record, "Hometown Glory", in which she sings the praises of Tottenham in London, was released in October 2007 as a limited edition 7" vinyl and became single of the week on iTunes. It got her loads of attention and a contract with XL Recordings who urged her to release 'Chasing Pavements' as a potential hit single: and so it was staying at No. 2 for 4 weeks Her debut album 19 went straight to No.1 in the UK charts and was certified platinum within a month of its release.
