Frock Me
Our resident website's fashion expert Holly from fashion blog Never Love You More brings you weekly advice about how to recreate the look for this week's Frock Me. This time it's Vintage...

Buying vintage is a brilliant way of making sure you stand out in a crowd and don't get the embarrassing situation where you are wearing the same Topshop dress as someone else. Here are some of the things you should be looking out for when you buy vintage.

Plaid shirts

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is nothing more fashionable at the moment than an over-sized plaid shirt. Whether its tartan or just patterned you cannot fail to look totally on trend in a big shirt, wear with denim cut off shorts and thick black tights for that Pixie Geldof look. Or, if you are feeling really brave get one long enough to act as a dress and sling a belt round it for that 'just thrown my outfit on' look.

Old band t shirts

I don't know what it is about old band t-shirts that is so cool but they keep coming back into fashion time and time again. The black 80's shirts are the best especially if the print is slightly worn. Buy anything with The Rolling Stones, Europe, Wings, AC/DC and Black Sabbath on and prepare to be totally on trend.

Trench coats

The trusty cream trench is so popular, especially at this time of year. You can pick up vintage Burberry ones on eBay - you can recognise them from the checked logo on the lining. Alternatively, Urban Outfitters' vintage section usually has a good selection. Blue, cream and black are the only colours of trench you will want to wear. Want to make it look totally original? Then go to the haberdashery and pick up some different buttons, I suggest anything with anchors on!

Wax Jackets

Our Alexa spearheaded the trend for wax jackets when she was seen at festivals in one this summer. Vintage shops often have a great selection, look out for Barbour and Belstaff brands as they are the most stylish and vintage prices are a lot more affordable than their new price! Wear yours with skinny jeans and Doc Martens for the perfect look.

Victoriana boots

Don't forget your feet when you're vintage shopping, vintage shops are a treasure trove for winter boots and, amazingly, they have been worn in already so you don't get hideous blisters the first time you wear them. Look for lace up ankle boots for the gothic Victoriana trend, or go for a two tone leather riding boot for warm legs!
