June left T4. Spice Girls popped back. Britney got a bit razor happy. It's certainly been a year of huge ups and crashing downs. So let's hear it for 2007. Here are the year's most memorable bits...

Britney's rollercoaster year
Oh dear. We can hardly imagine that Britney will fondly look back on the headshaving, rehab-going, brolly bashing, car crashing incidents as career highlights but the best thing we could say about it is that it didn't look like it could get any worse for our Britney after that. And lo - it did get better! 'Blackout', Britney's fifth album, is thought to be the pop princess's best album to date. And if she can produce such a pop delight while in such a state, we are looking forward to the albums she brings out in less troubled times.

Amy Winehouse's rollercoaster year
From 'Rehab' to 'finished with rehab' to marriage and airing out those newly-wed problems in busy London streets, our favourite beehive-wearer Amy Winehouse has certainly had her fair helping of drama this year. But despite all the tabloid hoo-ha, we feel Amy has come out on top this year, managing to override all the gossipy chit chat with each spine tingling show that she's performed. Well done her.*

*Apart from the MTV Europe Music Awards of course.

Rihanna breaks records and hearts
We can't thank the sun for our lovely tans this year. Or for all our memories of endless summer days stretching out with a picnic in the basking sun. Nor can we thank it for making sure Glastonbury/V and all our other festivals were dry and comfortable affairs. But what we - and we're sure Rihanna - can give thanks to our long, cold summer for is helping to heave the Barbados born beauty's 'Umbrella' so far into our pop consciousnesses that we could rarely go more than an hour without the urge to blast it out. And it was the longest stay at number one for a female artists since Whitney Houston in 1992, so we can't have been the only ones to think that. Thank you, the lack of sun. NB: You can watch McFly and Girls Aloud singing 'Umbrella' at T4 On The Beach here.

June leaves T4
Get the tissues at the ready once more - for it is true, our Lady June announced that she'd be leaving the good ship T4 in 2007. BLUB! In her six years at T4, June used her sunny interview techniques on Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and Jordan to name but a few. We'll miss her but she'll be back for some T4 specials so we can't be too sad.

Prisoner Hilton
My, what a tough job Paris Hilton's parents must have. This year's spell in jail for drink driving really must have taken the biscuit for Mr and Mrs Hilton. Still, at least she's learned from her mistakes and we doubt Miss H will line up the shots before getting behind the wheel again. Not after having to wear those awful stripes for a full 22 days in prison (with one day at home) anyway.

Big Brother
This year Big Brother saw double in the form of hyperactively adorable twins Sam and Amada. Or Samanda if you want to save time. Romance and bitchiness were in abundance in the house, with the ups and downs of 'Chiggy' keeping our tongues wagging all summer and Charley's numerous drama queen moments ensuring that there was never a dull moment.

Spice Girls back. Back. BACK!
There's been a huge Spice Girls-shaped gap in our pop lives since the feisty fivesome shufted out of the musical realms seven years ago. So imagine our absolute joy when we heard that not only would the girls be recording again, but that they'd be touring the world too. Woo and, indeed, hoo!

David Beckham goes away
Oh, David. David, David Beckham, how we miss you on these cold shores since you left to play football for the sun and snaz of LA Galaxy. Sure that new Armani advert has satiated our Beckham love and so has his whiffingly great 'Intimately His' but it just isn't the same. Please come back in 2008!

Kylie's return
Kylie has never really been away, has she? But hearing our loveable Aussie songbird's first single in a longer-than-you'd-imagine two years, '2 Hearts', was a great moment for us and the world of pop alike. We look forward to Kylie turning 40 with grace and doing a European tour next year.
