Who has been the coolest guest you've ever interviewed/met and why?
Sharon Osbourne was an absolute diamond. We spent an afternoon together by the pool in L.A, she told me the dirtiest, most scandalous gossip, opened her heart, swore like a trooper, even gave me a big sloppy kiss at the end of the interview! Not only has she dealt brilliantly with everything that life has thrown at her, but she speaks her mind (like me!) and is ridiculously down to earth. Plus she's got lovely puppies!
Who was the worst guest you've ever interviewed/met and why?
It's weird, as the smaller the star, normally the bigger the ego. Let's just say that there's a certain snotty Hollyoaks actress that won't be on my Xmas card list this year!
Who would make you star-struck if you met them?
Liam Gallagher, as the man is a God in my eyes. He's everything a modern day 'celebrity' should be, and you've got to totally admire him for playing the game exactly his way. Cool clothes, mega-talented, lovely missus, fellow Mancunian and a barnet to be proud of!
Some people on TV say they can't bear to watch themselves on screen. Are you the same?
I'm very, very critical. But it's so important to watch yourself in a bid to constantly improve and learn your trade. I've found I do a weird thing with my mouth in interviews and say 'fantastic' all the time, so I'm on the case as a result of watching. Oh, and I'm a bit of a vain bugger as well!
What has been your most embarrassing experience on and off camera?
Steve-O from Jackass got his todger out midway through an interview once, ending up with me stumbling over my words to a bemused Johnny Knoxville. When I got out - broken man - all the T4 crew wanted to know was what it looked like, the dirty monkeys!
What advice have you got for people who want to break into TV presenting?
I spent 6 years as a music and celebrity journalist prior to TV, and having that behind me has helped me get on no-end. Learn your stuff, be prepared to take the rough with the smooth and don't be scared to have an opinion and to work flipping hard. And if that doesn't work, just try stalking series producers or June Sarpong. That should make some sort of impression!
If you weren't on TV what do you think you would be doing instead?
I'd be on Corrie - Seriously! I'd like to play Karen McDonald's twin good for nothing scally brother, selling dodgy DVD's down on the 'Red Rec' and generally baiting Betty Turpin for extra helpings of hot-pot. I trained as an actor with sexy Suranne Jones (Karen) for years and I've already called her and told of my plans. She never rang back though...funny that.
What music are you listening to at home, right now?
I'm an indie boy at heart, loving Kings Of Leon, Goldfrapp and the mighty Foo Fighters. But after discovering Black Eyed Peas in L.A I'm mad for 'Elephunk'. Plus I've got a massive soft spot for Jamelia, so I made sure I bought her new album in a bid to get it to the top of the charts.
What is the best gig you have ever been to?
About 18 months ago I went to see the 'Real Stone Roses' - the tribute band - at the Garage in Islington, and honest to god, it was like the legendary early 90's Spike Island gig all over again! I've never sweated so much in my life. But seeing Coldplay, Faithless, Ian Brown, Doves and Kylie at V2001 was a weekend to remember. Not that I can remember though, if the truth be known!
Where do you do your shopping - for clothes and for food?
I can give that Sarpong a run for her money when it comes to clothes shopping, trust me! I'm into labels like One True Saxon, Seal Kay, Levi's Red and tailors Crow and Jester for posh stuff, but I can often be found perusing the racks in TK Maxx. When it comes to grub, it has to be Asda. You can take the boy out of Warrington...
What's your favourite drink?
Apart from mucky booze, I absolutely crave root-beer. That fateful day McDonald's took it off the menu was a dark, dark time for me indeed.
What is your all time favourite film and actor/actress?
I've got two. 'Rita, Sue and Bob too', and 'The Beautiful Thing'. Anything British, gritty and slightly rude gets me excited. I also bow at the altars of Kathy Burke and Jim Carrey as well.
What's the best holiday you've ever been on? Where do you want to go next?
I went camping by waterfalls in Northern Morocco 3 years ago, which was just breathtaking and a first for me normally used to the safe havens of room service and hotel mini-bars. But filming the summer shows in L.A this year was a month I'll treasure forever. I'd really like to try somewhere like Croatia next.
What would you do if you won a million on the lottery?
Take 30 mates over to Ibiza for a fortnight's hedonism and sun-worshipping. Oh, and I've always wanted to milk a cow the 'old fashioned' way.
Have you got any phobias or pet-hates?
Air hostesses scare me, especially when you get on 'budget' flights and they stomp up and down the aisles wielding trolleys of death with inch-thick make-up. And I hate the way celebrity magazines constantly do that 'Cameron Diaz sweaty armpit shocker' or 'Kelly Rowlands has cellulite!' exclusives. It really gets my goat!
