Snuff Box first aired in 2006, so how come it’s taken so long to get to DVD?
Rich: Oh my god, you just go straight for the jugular!
Matt: The reason for that would have been because there has to be evidence that there’s some sort of demand for it and that took three years.
Rich: We put some stuff on YouTube and it gradually gained this cult following.
Matt: Yeah, there was a big demand for it to go onto DVD.
Rich: By this point we’d moved on though because we thought people hated us!
Why did you decide to use your real names for your character names?
Matt: There’s a good reason for that, because then you will always own that particular character. It won’t be owned by the BBC, so therefore you can move that character to film, to a different channel anywhere you want because they can’t own your name. It’s a very, very clever thing to do!
Rich: Yeah, very clever! No-one can steal Rich Fulcher, not even my mom!
Did you think the ‘She’s Got A Boyfriend’ sketches would become such viral comedy gold?
Matt: Absolutely not!
Rich: We never knew what kind of sketches were going to take off, but those were perfect because they were short, sweet, to the point, in and out and nobody gets hurt.
Matt: They kind of reflect most people’s lives in offices or wherever you happen to work.
Rich: Yeah, but if you’ve got a girlfriend, forget it!
Matt: They apply to people more in offices though, because the thing is, say you work in the arts you have more than one boyfriend or more than one girlfriend, so saying you’ve got a boyfriend makes no difference because they’ll probably sleep with you anyway.
Rich: Currently we have 23 girlfriends.
How would you describe Snuff Box in one sentence?
Rich: The darkest shit you’ve ever seen.
Matt: A work of genius.
Do you think they’ll ever be another series of Snuff Box or do you want it to maintain the cult status that it’s got now?
Matt: If there is it won’t be called Snuff Box, we call it something else. I mean, I’m more than happy to leave it where it is, as I think is Rich.
Rich: It might be called Fluff Flox or something like that.
Matt: Or Goldilocks.
So are you two planning on doing more work together in the future then?
Matt: Yes please!
Rich: Yes!
Ok Matt, this one’s for you, if you could compose music for any other TV show what would it be?
Matt: Songs of Praise.
If you could take any of the characters from Snuff Box and give them their own TV show who would it be and why?
Rich: Well, there’s a character called Brad that likes to make love to various objects…
Matt: …Including himself…
Rich: …His hand, stuffed animals, lollies. I would like to do a show based on that were each week I make love to a different object and it would be filmed with fourteen cameras and I get to take stuff off and really get in to it.
Matt: For CBBC?
Rich: Yeah. In the morning.
Matt: We would probably like to do a full version of Snuff Box for CBBC.
Rich: So instead of, “I have a girlfriend,” it’d be “I have a playmate,” then you’d kick the dog.
