FAQs

Will I be contacted once I've sent in my idea?
All submissions will be read by a team of experienced playscript readers and the people who make it onto the shortlist will be contacted by 30th September 2005. Because we anticipate a large response to this competition it will not be possible to contact everyone individually, or to return the synopses and other material. If you have not been contacted by 30th September 2005, this will indicate that you have unfortunately not made it on to the shortlist and into the subsequent phases of The Play's The Thing.

Can I send in a finished play?
Complete plays will not be accepted at the initial stage. If your idea is shortlisted, we will tell you how the next stages of the process to final script will work.

Can I use ideas from a play I've already written?
Ideas from existing plays written by the entrant will be accepted provided the play has not previously been professionally optioned, produced or published. This means plays written for and performed by amateur groups are eligible.

Who will own the copyright in the play?
The copyright will remain with the writer(s). The selected writer(s) will enter into an agreement with the Producer(s) of the play and be remunerated in line with industry custom and practice.

Do I have to appear on TV if I submit an idea?
If your idea gets shortlisted and you get into the final rounds of the selection process, appearing in the TV series is part of the deal.

If you have a general question not covered by any of the information on this site and which may be of interest to other potential participants, please post it to the The Play's The Thing FORUM and we'll do our best to answer as many as possible.
