) as long you are the sole author and owner of the copyright in all of the pictures entered i.e. you must have been the one to take the photo in the first place! You are allowed to enter images that have been digitally manipulated, or an image that derives from more than one negative - provided (as above) that you own copyright to all the negatives used.
Is there a limit to the size of the image I can enter?
Yes. Printed image submissions can be no smaller than a passport-sized photo and no bigger than standard A3. Digital images must be JPEG or BMP images with a 1MB maximum file size.
Is there any sort of image I can't enter?
You should avoid including any works such as paintings, sculptures, posters etc too prominently unless you have the artist's permission in writing. The same goes for getting written permission from anyone featured in a potentially embarrassing situation. If you are taking a picture featuring someone prominently you should always ask his or her permission first. Entries considered by the promoter to be obscene or in any other way unacceptable in terms of taste and decency will be disqualified.
When is the closing date for submission?
The closing date for submissions is 5.00pm, FRIDAY, 30 MARCH 2001; it is the same for both postal and digital entries. Please remember that this is the date that entries must be received by, so allow time for the Royal Mail to deliver if sending by post. The organisers will not be responsible for entries lost or delayed in the post.
Will I still have copyright over my images?
Yes, you will retain ownership and copyright of your images but Channel 4 reserves the right to display, reproduce and publish your images for promotion and publicity of the YR.1 project. In addition Channel 4 reserves the world-wide right to reproduce entries in any book associated with the competition. The license for this will be exclusive for one year from 30 March i.e. you would only be able to have your photo published in another book after this time.
Can I submit my photos both online and on paper?
Yes, you can - but the rules above still apply - you can only enter three images in total across three different categories. Entries will be cross-referenced when they are received. Please do not send the same image or images by both online and postal routes.
If I can't write my name on the back of my images how will you be able to identify me?
The images are given unique reference numbers when we receive them so that the competition is totally anonymous and as fair as we can make it. For this reason it is very important that you do not write anything on the photographs other than the information requested (category and entry number).
What is the online gallery?
The Channel 4 website will have a special
