John Simm is a man for whom dreams come true. As a 16 year old, he enrolled in drama college with the dream of becoming an actor. He also harboured musical ambitions on the side. Today, he is one of the nation's most respected actors, with a critically-acclaimed body of work to rival stars twice his age.

He's also supported Echo and the Bunnymen on tour, and performed in Finsbury Park with New Order, having played New Order's frontman, Bernard Sumner, in the film 24-Hour Party People. Playing Sumner was also something of a dream for Simm, who is a big fan of the band. It doesn't stop there, either – his favourite book is Crime and Punishment, and he starred as Raskolnikov in the BBC adaptation.


Now, following his leading role in the hugely popular Life on Mars, Simm has landed another plum role, this time in Channel 4's feature-length drama The Yellow House, playing the brilliant but unhinged artist Vincent van Gogh. Who, as luck would have it, is one of Simm's heroes.
