It isn't that easy to disappear – about 9 out of 10 disappearing acts are found. But here are a few who haven’t been discovered.

Glen Miller Jazz musician and band leader. Disappeared on 14 December 1944 after taking a flight from London to Paris. Neither Miller's body nor the plane he was flying in were ever found.

Jimmy Hoffa American trade union leader who disappeared on 30 July 1975 after a meeting with two Mafia leaders at a Detroit restaurant. Some believe his body lies buried in concrete under the end zone of the New York Giants' stadium.

Shergar Last seen at the Aga Khan’s Ballymany Stud in County Kildare. He was the most impressive Derby winner in history and had won six of his eight races, totting up winnings of £436,000. He was about to embark on his second season in stud when he was kidnapped from his stable on 8 February 1983. Shergar was never seen again.

Richey James Edwards Musician with the rock band Manic Street Preachers. Edwards disappeared on 1 February 1995 on the day the band were due to leave for an American tour. Thirteen days later his Vauxhall Cavalier was found abandoned at the Severn Bridge.

Osama Bin Laden Last seen in a cave somewhere near Torra Borra, Afghanistan, 2001.
