The best of British – the male voices that rocked an island
The American musical landscape of the early 20th Century was rapidly changing, fuelled in large part by the huge influx of European immigrants but Britain was never far behind. However, recovering from the effects of both World Wars, took the attention of our men away from the music and dance halls until the 1950s. While names such as Gracie Fields and Vera Lyn found both local and international success in the 1930s and 40s, only a handful of British male ‘voices’ found the audience they truly deserved.
