Beauty Truly Blent
A contemporary screen adaptation of Twelfth Night, one of Shakespeare's most celebrated and best loved plays. In his film debut, director Tim Supple re-imagines Shakespeare's classic comedy of disguise and mistaken identity for a modern audience.
The resultant tale follows twins Viola and Sebastian, asylum seekers who are separated and washed up on the strange island of Illyria - a contemporary, multicultural London dreamscape that is both soulful and sensual; dark and dangerous.
In the director's own words: "Twelfth Night is a story of the loneliness of exile, the pain of loss and the madness of love. Its remarkable cast of characters suffer strange confusion and magical coincidence - all in a state of delightful delirium. It enthrals us with the sorrow of endings and the great hope of beginnings."
The lead role of Viola is played by Parminder Nagra, fresh from her recent success in Bend It Like Beckham. Following his compelling performance in Dirty Pretty Things, Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Duke Orsino, and Michael Maloney, of Truly, Madly, Deeply fame and a regular with the Royal Shakespeare Company, takes the part of Malvolio.
The soundtrack to the film was written by award-winning composer Nitin Sawhney.
