New presenters and a revamp, what do you think?

We hope Channel 4 didn't spend too much money on reformatting the RISE show. It would frankly have been a total waste.
Edith is too good as a presenter to be associated with this revamp, which, in our view, seems unnecessary and of poor quality. The new "front man" (Ian who? or Ian who cares?) is annoyingly loud. In our view (and probably several others), he is totally inappropriate and probably irrelevant. It would be preferable to leave the presentation to Edith.
RISE, as a lighter alternative to the BBC, was fine (and "if it isn’t broke why fix it?"). Since GMTV is simply an irrelevance that exists merely to improve the BBC's ratings, why hasn't Channel 4 tried harder at the captive breakfast-time market?
Oh well, its back to the BBC for us.

What's going on with Rise? The new format is rubbish,it's like GMTV only Eamonn Holmes is funnier than your presenters.
The old format was much easier to watch early in the morning, and unfortunatley Mel and Sue are just not easy to watch at anytime of the day!

What have you done to Rise in the morning?????? I cant believe I waited with baited breath to see the best morning show with great humour, only to be given a revamp of the "Big Breakfast" with "Carry On" humour!! Why ruin a perfectly good show - especially with Mark Durden Smith, to replace it with something that seems like a bunch of students hanging round trying to be funny? Im not impressed and will be switching sides. You have upset a lot of people! Have you not heard of the saying, if its not broken, don't fix it.

I would like to express my utter disappointment with the appointment of the terrible Mel and Sue on RI:SE. I don't know if they are meant to be comedians but they are the two most irritating individuals on television. The simple fact is that the programme will lose viewers. Not least because Mel was probably the only one to come out of Big Brother with people wondering whether she is a scripted comedian because she is not funny. As a trainee multimedia student I know that their presenting is poor, and if could say what I would change about RI:SE, it would be the whole format. People do not want to hear news over and over again. I assume the idea is to develop the news as you get it, but most stories do not develop in any major way until 9am at least. First thing would be to stop repeating the news over and over. Secondly, it is too relaxed for that time in the morning. The staying power of GMTV and BBC Breakfast suggests a formal style is more appropriate. I think channel 4 has got the target audience wrong - it is aimed at the viewers that GMTV does not appeal to. They are students, who are not up from 7-9; schoolchildren, who all have Sky and watch cartoons; teenagers, who listen to music and so on. The 7-9 audience are office 9-5 workers preparing to leaver home. The show needs features, maybe on health, diet and fitness, education. It needs interviews. Do not overdo it with the 'cool' celebs because the audience isn't interested. The script needs to be a lot stronger. As a training journalist I think it is terribly written. Maybe think about bringing in older presenters. You have tried to capture a niche in the market where there isn't one. All Big Breakfast viewers have grown up and begun watching GMTV; all younger viewers who never watched Big Breakfast never had to because of 24 hour cartoon or sports channels on digital. You definitely need more music acts to get the viewers who would normally listen to music. The design of the set needs to be changed as well. The simple way to succeed is to say what people want to hear - do some market research and you will find out that is probably real life issues, not too serious, with news once an hour and some entertainment news only once in two hours. I don't know if you would listen to my advice, I probably sound cocky. But I leave university in June with a BA Multimedia Journalism. Hope I haven't ruined my chances of a job?

WHY does Channel 4 have such a hard time creating a morning show worth watching??? The 'new' RI:SE is truelly AWFUL!!(the 'old' one was better)
I have never been a viewer of GMTV before but i am one now as RI:SE is so awful i will not watch it. Mel & Sue need to be taken off the air immediately.I do not know of anyone who actually likes them. They are NOT funny in the slightest and they make me cringe. The whole format for the show seems to be aimed at children. THE BIG BREAKFAST was the original and is still the best morning format for channel 4. The end of that show was the end of an era. I used to go to work late just so i could watch johnny vaughan and denise van outen. They were so good and funny together. I felt a personal bond with the big breakfast that made me watch it but this new show RI:SE is absolute cack.I was happy enough with the old format as kirsty and liz made the show watchable due to their extremely good looks but now we are left with that plain blonde scottish one and possibly the geekiest and ugliest looking man on television. PLEASE channel 4 pull you're finger out and give us something worth waking up for as RI:SE certainly isn't worth it!!!!

Why change?
Really disappointed with the new format. The 2002 RI:SE was a refreshing change to the Richard & Judy style offerings on BBC and ITV. The fast format, top 6 news stories, weather and sport really told me all I needed to in the 30-40mins I watch TV before heading to work. The new 2003 show is poor in all the respects - I watched this morning and didn't see a single pice of news, sport or weather...it just seems to have changed to a glorified entertainment update. The old show had great little touches...like the pre-break and after break RI-SE logo showing you the time. And that top 5 whiteboard? What's that all about? Have the budgets been cut so badly that you've had to drop the big screens to go for a £50 whiteboard and handwritting?

I was one of the many people eho thought that The Big Breakfast should not have been ditched. However, I gradually settled in to the original RI:SE format which improved as the presenters started to relax. Generally, I don't think that the new format has improved on the original, and aimimng too much for the youth audience will probably alienate some viewers over 35. The one good thing for me is seeing Mel & Sue back on tv. They have a friendly, fun air about them without resorting to insults against celebrities to get a laugh. Keep the girls and get an older audience in the studio.

I think the new rise format is great, I don't agree with those who think Edith should present alone, at least one can understand Ian's accent, furthermore both presenters compliment each other. Love 'what's in the newspapers' and the new set.

I also wondered what had happened to the RI:SE that left before Christmas. I waited for it to start again but was surprised to see it had all changed. I like Mel & Sue but they aren't appropriate for morning. Ian Lee is good but too much. It is now very much like the big breakfast - which I also liked. BUT old RI:SE with Mark was much better. It was a light hearted look at the news rather than a slightly adult Saturday morning programme!

Can't agree more with Terry and other comments - the new RI:SE format is a complete turn-off (pun intended). I watched the old RI:SE every morning, I can't even get through 30 min of the new one. Edith is still very good individually, but the show itself is horrible, the other presenters are anoying as hell and there is no content! Bring back Liz and Mark or Big Breakfast or even re-runs of "Bewitched" all of the aforementioned are 10X better than the latest incarnation of RI:SE. I've literally switched to BBC for my morning viewing. The executives who made this decision should be fired, on second thought not to worry he/she will be shortly when the next ratings come through
