I was appalled by the response to the TV coverage of
the death of the Queen Mother. I know that the BBC received 2000 calls
complaining about the extended coverage, and very few agreeing with
it, but I cannot belive that people are so callous that the programmes
celebrating her life which replaced scheduled programmes prompted
complaints. It's a sad reflection of modern British society that we
care more about our viewing on a Saturday night than we do about the
death of one of our leading national figures.

Interestingly, after the furore surrounding the tie that
Peter Sissons wore whilst presenting the news on the night that the
Queen Mother died, I have noticed that all the BBC's presenters and
newsreaders are now wearing black ties. Having vigourously defended
their decision not to insist on black ties (as all other channels
did) they seem to have backtracked somewhat. It would be interesting
to here their explanation.
