I'm writing to complain about the charges you are imposing for people
to watch big brother on the internet. It wouldn't be as bad but you
already make money off advertising, eviction phone calls charges etc.
As the saying goes "if it ain't broke don't try and fix it."
I really think you have made a really big mistake. I for one will
not be paying.

Channel 4 Spokesman
19th May 02
“For the first two series of Big Brother, the live video feeds were
provided free of charge on the web by third parties at no cost to
Channel 4. The success of the show has meant that the cost of providing
such a service has escalated to the extent that this year this was
not an option. Without partners, Channel 4 cannot afford to offer
live streaming of Big Brother 3 on the internet free of charge. Viewers
will be able to access free live streaming for the first two weeks
following sign-up to the live web service and will also get free live
streaming on Channel 4 on Friday and Saturday nights. We are sorry
if our decision to charge for live web streaming has disappointed
viewers. But having recently posted our first annual loss in a decade,
we must ensure we can continue to pay for all the other valued programmes
and services provided by the main Channel 4 service at no cost to
viewers.”

The sound gaps on big bro live are VERY irritating. The messages that
it is to make it suitable for daytime viewing seem rubbish as there
is no suggestion they are going to swear etc. All that happens is
you lose track of the converations and turn over as it is just plain
annoying to miss out on the meat of a conversation- GET IT SORTED.

Why on earth do you constantly cut the sound on the live programmes
on E4. It can't be just because of the swearing, not even I swear
that much. It makes it almost impossible to watch. Please sort it
out - I can't bear the silence any more.

Marvellous. We pay for E4 so we can see things that aren't shown on
Channel 4 and what do we get? Silence. Chicken Cam. Please don't treat
us like children. Late night viewing should be suitable for adults,
not censored. There's plenty of swearing on TV alreaady, so why not
let the BB housemates appear in all their glory.

If last nights accounts on Big Brother was what we have to look forward
to for the next 9 weeks I'm afraid your channel will lose a lot of
viewers, because it is the worst bit of television Ihave ever watched.
If this is the new Big Brother then please bring back the old ones.
Watching a chicken coop (with no chickens in) and Sandy reading a
magazine is good television then I would rather watch paint dry.

I know that Big Brother is very popular, but please, do we have to
have a large banner on screen advertising the interactive service
spoiling our enjoyment of other E4 programs? It's bad enough that
we get a channel logo and other screen furniture such as 'brand new'
always present. In the digital age you only have to press a button
to get more information, so why do we have to suffer these on screen
distractions on a channel we actually pay extra for?

Are you really surprised the Big Brother contestants want to leave?
I thought BB was supposed to be an experiment to see how people from
different walks of life get along, yet about 9 of the 12 are between
the ages of 20 and 25. Lets face it, you have picked people who you
thought would give you the best chance of shagging and fighting. They
all [with possibly the exception of Sandy] come across as very thick
and shallow with nothing interesting to say. I doubt if any of the
younger ones even know what a book is! How did you expect a bunch
of kids with an attention span a goldfish would be proud of not to
get bored? Or as I said, were you just hoping for shagging and fighting?
Either way, we wont get to see any of it as you coverage [35 minutes
a day?????] is nothing short of pathetic. I just hope the 7 people
with E4 and the 2 people stupid enough to sign up for your rip-off
internet coverage think they are getting value for money. Will they
get a refund when all the contestants leave because they are too thick
to converse or amuse themselves??

The new series of Big Brother has struck the wrong tone - not fun
just nasty. How was Sunita approved when she so obviously could not
cope? Why the meaness of the eviction which had Jade reduced to a
nervous wreck? Why humiliate the first evictee with a public vote,
a house vote AND the walk of shame past a booing crowd? It was all
just so embarassing and not at all entertaining. I switched over.
This used to be fun not nasty.

On Big Brother all you ever get to hear is bird tweeting, its completely
puts you off watching it when nearly half the program is blanked out,
I think you neeed to lax your controls a little, or there is no point
in turning on. Even after 9 pm its the same story , so I really dont
get what the problem is, most things on tv have bad language, and
you still blanket it all out after 9 pm. You can even lip read or
guess what from they are talking about that there not saying anything
bad are Channel 4 completely paranoid. Sort it out or no ones gonna
watch it anymore my friend say they dont bother watching because of
the constant censoring

I find it so bl**dy annoying when trying to watch Big Brother when
all of a sudden the sound goes mute! During the day I can whole heartedly
understand as there may well be youngsters watching. But when it's
past the 9pm watershed it's rediculous. I appreciate that it's not
the fault of Channel 4, but those who make the regulations in this
stupid infantile country. It just doesn't seem to make sense when
the sound goes mute, particularly in the evening. You know one minute
they're f'ing and blinding, then the sound goes mute, what can they
be saying that's any worse???? Do they think we're kids for gods sake.
I was searching the Net for these regulations, when I came across
foreign versions of Big Brother in both Sweden (I think it was) and
Australia, and they even allow full on nudity. I'm not suggesting
it should be turned in to some kind of porn fest, but these old fashioned
policy who seem to think we adults are kids need to get with the times.
Please excuse my language but as you can see it's something I feel
very strongly about. Is there anything the general public can do to
change the regulations that Channel 4 knows of???

Pretty much everyone I talk to is fed up with the sound breaks. They
even happen after the 9 o'clock watershed. They start to say something
with interset and OOPS you guesed it - over to chicken cam. Alex and
Lee were talking about bullying and racism on the other night but
we never heard there views or how they were effected. Surely this
is important stuff and is going to effect the way people vote and
might even have a good influence some young people .I mean, Graham
Norton is alowed to swear and have swearing on his show but not BIG
BROV. If your not carefull people wont will stop watching Iknow I
have. IF YOU'RE THAT WORRIED ABOUT LOSING MONEY, CHANGE IT. THE PUBLIC
HAVE SPOKEN.

What have you done? You've killed it! It was good to watch all the
housemates together, wondering whether Adele and Lee or Kate and Spencer
would get together? Or who will Alex argue with next? That was the
whole idea of the programme. But now that you,ve put the bars down
the middle you have physically and mentally split the group. It is
now not worth watching and I for one wont be!!!!

I am writing to ask; what brainless idiot decided to split the BB
house into two halves. The program was great before (why change it?).
But now, the housemates are not all on an equal standing; with each
other. I knoe that speaking to family and freinds they have allready
stopped watching BB, I shall also stop watching & voting. I hope
that all the house mates walk out and tell Ch4 where to stick this
new format. Surely someone thought this through and relised it will
only get worse each week.

I do realise that Channel 4 is very controversial, but have they gone
to far this time? We are talking about people here. I also understand
that BB acording to George Orwell, sees all and knows all! The housemates
are being watched all the time and as soon as someone does something
wrong they are told about it. On the other hand it is obvious that
some of the housemates are unhappy and uncomfortable but are allowed
to remain like this for quite a long period of time. Even when BB
talks to the housemates I cannot say they say anything to really calm
them or make them feel better. I am concerned about the diet of the
poor side. Its all good food Iagree, but will they be able to stomach
it for a week. Our stomachs are, unfortunately, not accustomed and
could cause problems making them unwell. I am also concerned that
they do not have quilts and are quiet obviously chilly at night. No
hot water either to help warm them up, only a Barbecue for warmth.
Getting wet and dry cannot be good for them either with limited clothing.
I feel that money seems to be upper-most on the minds of the executives
who run this program and not the Health and Safety of the Housemates.
70k is far to little prize money this year for what they have been
through and for what they are still to go through.

Can I just say that Big Brother has chosen a good set of characters
for this years Big Brother, but unfortunately because of someone's
complete lack in sense the show has been ruined. How do you expect
the audience to be entertained when the characters who were most likely
to create any entertainment have been split up? The way the group
got split up was bad enough, but when I found out that this fixture
was permenant I was absolutely disgusted. I along with a majority
of people think that you have made a big mistake. No doubt this will
affect your all important ratings???

The sound gaps in big brother are extremely annoying and irritating
just when a conversation gets into full swing the sound goes off for
'legal reasons' how are we supposed to keep up with whats going on!
It never happened in the previous big brothers it really needs sorting!

I also think its a bit stupid having to cut big chunks out of the
conversation, however I do understand the legal bits, but what I really
can't stand is when the camera goes on the chickens for about 10mins!!!
but the worst has got to be when the camera focusses on somone who
is asleep for about 15 minutes and you can hear loads of funny stuff
goin on in the background an you really wanna watch whats goin on
but all you can see is Sandy snorin!! Come on BB get your camera priorities
right!!

I too am intrigued, and frustrated and annoyed, by the frequent interruptions
to sound during live broadcasts of BB on TV. I cannot believe they
have anything to do with, as C4 would call it, "strong language"
being used as these broadcasts are way past the watershed. Could you
please clarify what the 'legal reasons' are? Are 'inmates' discussing
named people outside the house, which if broadcast might cause offence
or distress? Are their comments slanderous, for instance? what IS
the reason!! Do please tell! Also, if one can lipread, presumably
one is privy to the 'unsuitable' discussion!! And finally, why is
it that sometimes when this happens, we are subjected to sounds of
the local birdlife from the garden and the most uninteresting shot
of the chicken coop imaginable?!!! I look forward to your clearing
up this mystery - although, frankly, this little curiousity has become
far more interesting than the rest of the programme!
