I was intrigued to watch Channel 4 'Al Qaeda' as I find that out of the terrestrial channels Channel 4 is generally the least biased however, after watching your so called 'documentary' on Al Qaeda I felt disgusted. This programme only increases the already growing Islamphobia in Britain today. I felt your reporters ignored basic facts and allowed the audience to believe that extremist Muslims just enjoyed the violence, not that they are the products of years upon years on unfair treatment by the west. Certain images I found absolutely mind blowing. Incredibly and skillfully the producers and editors managed to splash images of young INNOCENT Muslims dying and suffering but still manage to caste the Muslims in a threatening light. I would like to point out that Islam is not a violent religion and the continuance juxtaposition of the concept of Islam and terrorism clearly implied that it is. For myself the most distressing point of the programme was the pictures of Chechenians shooting a Russian tank, your reporters obviously forget to mention that the Russians rape, kill and humiliate the Chechenian people. Not to mention their use of concentration camps. However I understand that a channel such as 'channel 4' may find it difficult to report on such happenings as it is much more practical and comfortable to talk about the Jewish suffering under the Nazis over 60years ago. Than to be daring or truthful enough to discuss the REAL causes of the Muslim desperation. Finally, I have always wondered how channels such as yourself define the term 'terrorism'? Is it the bombardment of Israeli forces into Palestinian land to shoot and kill innocent children and then scorn when those youngsters have nothing left to live for but to seek 'justice' by strapping explosives to their waists?

I would like to make a complaint, I know you gave out a warning to say some scenes may upsetting to viewers, but was it really necessary to show close up pictures of soldiers that had been brutally killed by the Algerian guerrilla's. This was not good journalism but voyeurism.

I was disappointed with this negative programme, which did not tell us anything we do not already know or have read in the press. Another negative portrayal of Islam, no attempt to show views of mainstream Islam, the usual 'suspect' them all-would be terrorists. And what authority did the French expert have? They are his assumptions, and not a verdict to condemn people. Do we really want to produce the fear climate within which the people of the US are living? Suspect everyone, trust no one? So if ten people come to my home, my neighbour should call the police? Ever thought of showing a programme which informs people as to what Islam says regarding killing of innocent people, and theft (which includes credit card fraud). What the feelings of the Muslim population is in this country i.e. people born and raised here, and those who converted?

Is it wise to show a scare mongering report about the alleged al-Qaeda threat to our country at a time when Islamophobia is on the increase and when Muslim women are afraid to venture out because they may be attacked for wearing the hijab? Indeed, the triumphalism over the routing of Saddam further fuels such emotions. Why show a dated and unoriginal programme using material which is at least months old at such a time? I would have thought that Channel 4, which once prided itself on a being progressive and iconoclastic, would shy away from a CNN-style rabble-rousing rant. Sadly I am rather disappointed both at the hysterical tone and the out-dated material used to support it. As someone who believes the media is a vitally important player in the world, particularly at such times, I am dismayed by your lack of sensitivity.
