The Belfast police have arrested a Chinese immigrant hidden in the back of a lorry. They call in Brian, the local interpreter, to help with the interrogation. Brian’s Chinese is rusty, but gradually he gets the immigrant to open up and makes a personal connection, across cultures and continents. Then he discovers the man was arrested carrying a dead baby. This parallel event prompts Brian to re-examine his own family life.
