Nine-year-old Ellie Smith is Britain's highest-ranked juvenile ballroom dancer. She has so many trophies that her mum has had to put a whole cardboard box full in storage. Ellie thinks she's won about 300 in total. Ellie's dance partner is Tommy and they've been a couple for two-and-a-half years, a record time in the world of kiddie ballroom.
Her ambitious parents have kitted out her bedroom with a bar and mirrors, and they pull no punches when it comes to making sure that her dance studio room gets used. They've concocted a gruelling 10-hours-a-week dance practice schedule that would make most grown adults weep. And that's as well as homework. For Ellie's parents, the constant practicing is for one thing – winning the only trophy she doesn't already have, that of British Juvenile Champion.
Eight-year-old Tabitha is hot on Ellie's heels as the UK's number 2. Her mother Samantha shells out around £6000-a-year on her tiny dance protégée. Tabitha was ranked nowhere until she met dance partner Sam, but together they quickly rose to the top. However, disaster struck when little Sam decided he'd had enough of dancing, leaving Tabitha partner-less with only four months to go before the big competition.
Boys are in short supply in the world of baby ballroom, and girls have to fight to hang on to their man. Luckily, Samantha is not the kind of mum to let a 10-year-old boy destroy her daughter's future. The race is on to find Tabitha her man, and mum even enlists the help Richard and Judy, who kindly stage their own mini come dancing to find her a partner. And mum is picking up the bill for newcomer Mason's dancing lessons, to get him up to speed.
Eight-year-old Kelsey is lucky enough to not have to worry that much about being dumped, because her 10-year-old dancing partner Ryan is also her brother. To help this couple climb to the top of the dancing league, mum Alison is willing to spare no expense. Kelsey has a killer wardrobe, and mum is chief seamstress. Kelsey gets a new dress made for her every week. While Kelsey and Ryan may not be the highest ranking couple, mum is certainly determined that they'll be the best dressed.
The film follows these little starlets as they dance their hearts out in the championships. Which of the lovely ladies will come out on top? And importantly, will their partners stay with them?
