Kenan Malik's Channel 4 programme, Are Muslims Hated? revealed a huge gap between the perceptions and the reality of Islamophobia – with little evidence of a major backlash against Muslims in Britain. He did, however, find that the threat of Islamophobia is used to silence critics of Islam.
