RAW CUTS 2006

Raw Cuts 2006 was a fantastic writing and filmmaking competition that resulted in four great films written by teenagers.

The films were broadcast on Channel 4 from 16th to 19th October 2006 in the 3 Minute Wonder slot at 7.55pm.

Take a look at the films by clicking on the links below.

Megan-Louise Elliott, aged 15 from Lewes wrote Mashed
Nicky Docherty, aged 16 from Derby wrote Everyday
James Grealish, aged 18 from Bristol wrote Brain Damage

This is what Nicky Docherty had to say about the experience.

What did winning Raw Cuts 1 mean to you?
Winning the competition meant a lot to me! I entered just to put something on my CV and it turned out to be a great experience where I met loads of great people.

How did it feel to have your story made into a short film for broadcast to millions of people on national TV?
It was really scary watching the film on the TV, because my whole family came round to see it. It was embarrassing at first but the praise you get afterwards and the sense of achievement you feel is amazing.

What did you learn from the whole experience?
I learnt that I would love to be in the industry. It's a great chance to meet people with all of the same interests as you and people who are actually in the careers you want to be in!

Have you any plans to take your experience further and study or work in this field?
I am going to do a degree in Media Production at DeMontfort University. I knew I wanted to do something like this but experiencing Raw Cuts spurred me on even further!

Your favourite Raw Cuts 1 film?
I loved all of the films. They were all so different and all so well made. Everyone did so well in writing their story, and should be so proud of themselves.

Anything else you'd like to add?
Big thank you to all of the team that helped! Oh, and if you need anyone for work experience give me a shout! Thanks for everything!
