Professor Kay Hampton became chair of the Commission for Racial Equality in December 2006.

In this interview for the Race Debate, Kay talks about growing up in apartheid South Africa and her experiences of racism in Britain. She describes how she personally dealt with racism through education – trying to understand it by becoming an academic and sociologist, and now uses the tools of her understanding to make changes in the law and society.
