Johann is a columnist for The Independent and the youngest ever nominee for the Orwell Prize for political writing (2005).

On the Race Debate, although Johann believes we've taken "incredible strides forward in this country", both our foreign and domestic policies don't bear close inspection, and we've got a long way yet to go. He starts by talking about his personal experiences of racism.

Johann's definition of racism doesnt go quite far enough  its not just to treat someone differently because they look different to you. Racism also means treating people differently because they sound different to you. Im referring to all the Irish and Scottish jokes trotted out by the English over the years.
