Sussex Road Primary School, Kent A Channel 4 documentary discussing the work of Andreas Gursky inspired Elliott Amias and his pupils at Sussex Road Primary School to embark on their project, called The Camera Can Lie. The school's art club wanted to explore ways in which photographic images can be manipulated. By watching the documentary, pupils discussed how Gursky transforms industrial landscapes into pattern and made connections with their local landscape. Working for the first time with digital cameras, the group took photographs on location, including pictures of a dilapidated railway goods yard, a flood barrier and a motorway overpass. Images were downloaded onto computer, enabling pupils to make multiple copies so that they could experiment with the effects of different juxtapositions and arrangements.
