Fantasy Homes

Harper Green School, Bolton

The pupils of Harper Green School in Bolton created an art installation within their own school grounds, calling their piece Fantasy Homes. The homes in question weren't for the teachers or pupils, however, but for the local bird population.

Fantasy Homes detail

Led by artist Adella Jones, who addresses the relationship between humans and the natural world in her work, the pupils built birdhouses to entice our chirpy friends into their school grounds. Pupils made memory drawings of their own homes, drew aerial maps and made digital images of the garden area.

The children worked out their designs on paper before finally constructing their birdhouses from chicken wire and papier maché. Not content with this achievement alone, they then took part in a birdsound-making workshop and made bird food, ensuring their new tenants would be as happy as possible in their new home.
