Taiko Meantime are based in the World Heritage Site of Greenwich, London, and are one of the largest Taiko groups in the UK with 12 performing members.

They play original Taiko compositions, but with roots based firmly in a rich bed of traditional taiko rhythms and techniques from all over Japan. Drawing upon this knowledge, their performances display a wide variety of physical playing styles, rhythms and musical textures.

Taiko were founded in 2001 with generous support from the Japan2001 festival. The group has since evolved, performing for diverse audiences from schools to theatres; art dealers to marathon runners; clubbers to royalty.

In 2004, they had the honour to perform alongside the world-class Hana Yui (of Kodo) at two sold-out performances at the Lilian Baylis Theatre in London. Earlier this year they collaborated with the Henri Oguike Dance Company on a critically acclaimed tour.

In 2005, Meantime toured extensively with the Henri Oguike Dance Company, a collaboration melding Taiko with contemporary Dance, and which received critical acclaim. They also sold out a show at the prestigious Rhythmsticks Festival. They continue to inspire audiences with their uplifting music, boundless energy and pure enjoyment of playing Taiko.

In How Music Works, Taiko Meantime performs Tennon Ryu arranged by Mark Alcock.
