Borders fiddle player Shona Mooney is one of Scotland's leading musicians. The winner of the 2006 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, she began playing music with her family and has gone on to tour internationally with Scottish big-band extravaganza, The Unusual Suspects.

Her debut album Heartsease focuses on Shona's fascination with the music of the Scottish and English Border region, marrying traditional fidelity with contemporary flair.

A particular highlight for Shona this year has been to perform alongside Cappercaillie stars Donald Shaw and Karen Matheson at the BBC Proms in the Park, Glasgow. Later in the year she will be playing at the largest Fiddle festival in the world, Fiddle 2006, and will appear during the award ceremonies at the Scots Traditional Music Awards.

In How Music Works, Shona performs The Seagull by Donald MacLeod.
